This Miata is well known in the Miata community (named, The Blue Potato) and is the end result of 11 years of careful planning, building, and refinements that can be seen even in the smallest details. This Miata is a multi-magazine and Mazda show winner and will continue to be a rarity among the Mazda crowd for the next owner and beyond. Car is very sporty, quick and can be used as a daily diver weekly while attacking the track on the weekends.
THE HISTORY
Purchased locally in 1999 (in Atlanta, GA) from a second owner (Miata Club of America member) and was kept showroom stock. Since that time, car has been maliciously maintained exclusively by one Mazda tech (serviced at RSpeed Miata in Marietta, GA) and myself and housed in its own garage. I am a stickler for records and have kept every receipt, invoice and have a comprehensive log book for anything I have done, changed or added to this car – including back dating the previous owner’s maintenance history. Today she runs perfectly, very strong and only sees less than 1,000 miles a year (since 2003) for a weekend prowl or two. A couple milestones in its history:
In 2001, a new Pitcrew Racing (www.pitcrew-racing.com) front end was imported from Japan to RSpeed Miata and installed on the car by myself and the Rspeed crew. All factory mounting points were utilized and the nose was installed so that if ever, can be removed without any permanent modification to the body or structural changes to the chassis. The paint and body work was commissioned by a local retired body technician who specifically worked on fiberglass applications in his entire career. Today, the front conversion has never seen an impact or damage aside from paint-chips that I have attended to myself when annually. Today, the front end conversion is available only per order by Pitcrew Japan and becoming a rarity for any Miata stateside (one of 3 that I know of that are in US).
In 2004, RS Aizawa (Miata Racing Shop in Japan – see video below) visited the US and personally installed one of their last 1.8 specific Throttle Body systems on the car, including installing and tuning the HKS F-con Pro ECU as well as HKS cam gears. This is the only 1.8 version that that is in the US. This R.S. Aizawa throttle body system (manifold, runners/trumpets) is CNC machined out of massive blocks of Aluminum and hand polished to compliment the engine bay including custom made fully adjustable linkages, fuel rail, air filters). Fuel injectors were flow balanced prior to install by PR Motorsports. The engine internals remain stock, but this setup is quick and a perfect balance for daily driving and track events.
